The Shellsburg Public Library will have an opportunity to participate in an Adult Craft Night at two different times...April 24th 5:30-7:30 or May 6th 5:30-7:30.Jaime S. is providing her homegrown and cleaned gourds for this project. She will be your instructor for a fun night where you will paint or draw your design on the gourd and also learn about the ageing and cleaning process.

On Saturday, April 19. 2025 it will be time for the Kiwanis Annual Easter Egg Hunt! The fun will be held at the Kiwanis Park and begin at 10:00 a.m.Be sure to get there earlier so that you can catch a photo with the Easter Bunny!In case of bad weather, the event will move to the skate center. 

Wesley United Methodist Spring Sale will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10. The hours on Friday will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. On Saturday, 9-11:00 a.m.

The Shellsburg American Legion Saturday morning breakfast is held each Saturday. Thanks to the American Library Association Libraries Transforming Communities grant, our library is a proud affiliate of the Next Chapter Book Club. We meet every Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the library board room. This is a book club for adults living with intellectual disabilities; we laugh, make friends and thoroughly enjoy our time together.

The Vinton Fire Department is always there when you need them. On Thursday they responded to this fire in the 200 block of West 5th St. But on Friday...The Vinton Fire Department will be holding their annual Spring Fish Fry Fundraiser today, April 11, 2025 at the fire station. The department will be serving from 4-7:00 p.m. Let us do the cooking after a long work week! For a freewill donation, you can enjoy our specialty hand-breaded fried fish, homestyle french fries/baked potatoes, coleslaw, baked beans, dinner roll, and a great selection of homemade desserts.

The Urbana-Polk Township Fire Department will be holding their Spring Breakfast this Sunday, April 13 from 7:00 a.m. until noon. The cost is a freewill donation. If you would like to make a donation to the department, those can be dropped off at City Hall.

The Books and Cooks - Library Cooking Contest will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Join us as we celebrate National Library Week with a cooking contest! Choose a book from our collection, prepare a dish inspired by a book that you've read and bring it to the library for the chance to win a prize! All ages are welcome!The library is located at 510 2nd Ave.
